CHASING VOICES "ACIDBATHORY"
| ***AVAILABLE IN STORE ONLY!!!*** From the depths of electronic obscurity we welcome this anonymous release from “CHASING VOICES”. What this record lacks in information it makes up for in relentless, totally uncompromising electronic might, a morbid excursion on the outer limits of repetitive funk and mental sanity. Declaring war on the formulaic banalities of dubstep and stripping away its superfluities, cheap tricks and vapid gimmicks, slowing it down and forcing it into its own self-contemplation, “Acidbathory” reinterprets the breakbeat in the context of our present day wasteland and executes this vision with disturbing exactitude. Grotesque low-end acidic excretions slope up and down a summit of flawless arrangement, mutating to form a breathing organism of the darkest musical beauty. If the direct and pure expressiveness of punk rock is ever to encroach on the encapsulated world of electronic music, this is a good start. | |
| While similarly accomplished Chicago legends have excelled through the pages of history, Virgo’s Eric Lewis and Merwyn Sanders have not, at least until now, reveled in similar glories. Of course, not all genius is rewarded evenly. In this case, the immensely talented, D.I.Y. production team that created such all time masterpieces as “In A Vision” and “Ride” (under the M.E. moniker) have fallen through the cracks of Chicago house obscurity, lost leaders whose identity has been relegated to their cult classics. This compilation was originally released in 1989 and immediately became a desperately sought after collector’s item, failing to reach the ready and willing hands of so many good souls obsessed with the cosmic excursions into complex instrumental house music produced on the most basic analog gear, records that continue to sound as fresh, exploratory and stimulating today as they did in the late 1980’s. Thankfully, Rush Hour has reissued in full, on deluxe 2x12” vinyl with full picture sleeve, this beautiful compilation of all Lewis & Sanders’ best work, speaking to their total vision, a cohesive project dispersed among so many pseudonyms and independently released singles---an essential reissue of classic house innovation. |
DANIEL WANG "THE BOOTLEG EP"
| Brilliantly crafted, disco inspired house music from 1995, reissued here for the first time since. Before the obsession with outright disco came to the fore, the fallen hero of the underground was still showered with attention ---only this time transformed from uptempo soul into repetitive, endless streams of sampled, rearranged and reconceptualized classics, willfully borrowed and exploited, at times, extremely creatively. "The Balihu Bootleg E.P.", known at its release simply as "Aphroasiatechnubian," features some of Daniel Wang's greatest trance-induced bizzarities, most notably the strangley sedductive "Unhouse": cold, suprisingly funky deep house sleazed out with the hedonistic daze of the formative years. Facing up to its nature and directly embracing obvious retrospective styling,"Unhouse" still projects a definitely and disttinctly foward-looking vision. More than anywhere, "The Balihu Bootleg E.P." pulled off some generous borrowings with tact, skill and aboslute efficacy, exceeding beyond its ocassionally straining irony and taking its place in the cannon of rightful deep house classics.
